Summary:
If you manufacture, sell or hire out electrical appliances you must provide the energy efficiency rating of your products so that consumers can make better informed decisions. You must do this by clearly labelling your products. You must also display the product's energy consumption clearly.
Key Requirements:
The energy labelling requirements apply (with some exceptions) to all electric mains-operated household appliances (including household appliances that businesses use). Household electrical products that you must label include:
Refrigerators and freezers;
Combined washer-driers;
Dishwashers;
Electric or fluorescent lamps produced since March 1988, if they have a luminous flux of less than 6,500 lumens or an input power of more than 4W;
Tumble driers produced after 1 April 1996;
Washing machines with integral spinning capability, which heat their own water, and were produced after 1 April 1996;
Household air conditioners with a cooling power less than 12kW, except air-to-water and water-to-water appliances; and
Household electric ovens, including ovens which are part of larger appliances.
If you hire out electrical equipment or run hire purchase schemes you must provide your customers with the equipment's energy efficiency rating. This also applies if you sell products using other methods such as mail order, catalogue or the internet. You must also provide information about the product's energy consumption on request.
